Stop Giving Public Money to Planned Parenthood

With new revelations coming out practically every day about Planned Parenthood’s practice of selling fetal tissue, pressure is building to stop government funding of the organization.

Planned Parenthood receives over $500 million in federal funding every year, and the Illinois chapter receives millions each year from Medicaid:

In addition, in 2007, Planned Parenthood received $8,050,000 in bond proceeds from the Illinois Finance Authority:

“…to finance the acquisition of land, construction and renovation, acquisition of machinery and equipment, to pay capitalized interest and to pay certain professional and bond issuance costs.”

This money was used at 11 Planned Parenthood locations throughout Cook and DuPage Counties.

There’s a bill pending in the Illinois House (H.B. 4013) which would remove restrictions on payment for abortions for state employees and Public Aid recipients. The bill also allows the State to make grants to nonprofit agencies and organizations, the biggest of which is Planned Parenthood, which use those grants to refer, counsel for or perform abortions.

A House Resolution (H.R 671) sponsored by Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) and 31 co-sponsors which:

“Urges the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Executive Inspector General, the Illinois Attorney General, and the Illinois Department of Revenue to investigate Planned Parenthood’s procedures for abortions, obtaining informed consent, and sale or donation of human fetal tissue across the State and to investigate which organizations across the State are involved in purchasing or accepting human fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood.”

There’s something dreadfully wrong with our society. The most fundamental and unalienable right which any of us possess, life itself, is being taken from those least able to protect themselves. I for one refuse to stay silent while others attempt to bathe my hands in the blood of innocents. I hope you’ll refuse, as well, and contact your state senator or representative in support of H.R. 671.
